Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen is currently out with an ankle injury.

Jan Vertonghen sent the simple message of a group of flame emojis on Twitter to Harry Winks during Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League match against Gent last night, but he was the only player on Mauricio Pochettino’s side worth of any praise.

Tottenham were very poor against Gent yesterday, even though they named a strong line-up in the fixture.

And it was Winks, who stood out above the rest during the contest – earning praise from supporters and teammates alike.

Winks has been on the fringes of Tottenham’s starting line-up this season, with most his appearances coming off the substitutes’ bench.

The 20-year-old is very highly regarded by Mauricio Pochettino, and he will have done his chances no harm with his performance yesterday.

Winks has recently signed a new long-term contract at White Hart Lane, and seems likely to stay in Spurs’ line-up for their FA Cup tie against Fulham at the weekend.

How many other changes Pochettino will make at Craven Cottage remains to be seen, as his Spurs side are badly off form.

Tottenham have been woeful in their last two matches, and are under pressure to get back to winning ways soon.
