Jan Vertonghen is unsure about whether there will be a squad overhaul at Tottenham Hotspur after they were beaten in the Champions League final over the weekend.
Centre-back Vertonghen is one of the more senior men in the team and he admitted that he is hoping ‘everyone’ will ‘stay together’ despite the crushing defeat in Madrid.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side missed out on a chance of silverware and their first ever Champions League crown as Liverpool walked away with their sixth ever European trophy.
After the game, Belgium international Vertonghen seemingly defended this current Spurs side and issued a brief response to questions about a potential overhaul.
“We have a great team,” said Vertonghen, as quoted by Goal. “Hopefully everyone can stay together and we can achieve great things. I hope everyone stays. Will there be an overhaul? I don’t know.
“Today we live with disappointment and we’ll see what happens in the summer.”
Whether there will be a squad overhaul at Tottenham this summer it remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure Pochettino does need fresh legs through the door.
Despite earning a top-four finish in the Premier League this term and guiding the club to a European Cup final, he needs more strength in depth.
If his wishes do come true this summer then it’ll increase Tottenham’s chances of taking that extra step and winning their first piece of silverware under Pochettino.
