Jan Vertonghen has hit back at the thought or perception that it has gone ‘stale’ at Tottenham by reminding people of what the club has achieved over the years.

The Belgium international also claimed that there is ‘plenty of joy’ in the dressing room and ‘everyone’ is enjoying playing for the club.

Spurs have endured a number of indifferent performances and results this season, as they will be looking to build some momentum when they take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League tonight.

Ahead of that match, Vertonghen stated that he ‘doesn’t agree’ with the perception that it has gone ‘stale’, as he cited Spurs’ road to the Champions League final last season.

On whether it’s gone stale: “I don’t agree,” Vertonghen told Football London. “We improved every year. Last year we went to the Champions League final. Some new players came in and that keeps it fresh.

“I don’t see that it’s stale at all. I see plenty of joy in the dressing room. Everyone enjoys playing here.”

Aside from the Premier League’s top two – Liverpool and Manchester City, the rest of the league is pretty wide open.

Many would consider Spurs to be the third-best team in England, but they haven’t really been at their best to prove that this term.

There have been signs of Mauricio Pochettino’s side getting back to their best, as a win against Bayern Munich will no doubt lift the mood around the club even further.
