Son Heung-min has played well for Tottenham Hotspur this season.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen spoke highly of Son Heung-min last week. Vertonghen explained how Son is similar to teammate Harry Kane and underlined his value to the team.

Vertonghen told The Daily Star: “I used to play in a great Ajax team and we spoke about keeping the lads together, our dreams were about making finals and winning trophies. But it’s impossible for a lower team that doesn’t have the financial ability to do that.

“Tottenham does and everyone wants to be part of this team and you can see the way we play and the way we enjoy playing together, winning together. I don’t think you can find it anywhere else.

“Guys like Dele, like Harry. They cherish that and there’s Son Heung-min, who is the same. These strikers have this unbelievable drive and they set their goals and targets.

“And if you see him, he hasn’t always been a starting player but when he came on he was so valuable for the team.”

Vertonghen made the aforementioned comments after Tottenham’s 6-1 victory over Leicester City away from home at the King Power Stadium last week.

Son did start the match against Leicester and scored twice. The 24-year-old, who can operate as a winger or as a forward, has ended the 2016-17 Premier League season with 14 goals and six assists in just 23 starts.

The South Korea international is not guaranteed a place in the Spurs starting lineup, but he has shown time and time this season again just important a player he is.

Having joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by The Express to be worth £22 million, Son has established himself as a crucial player for the North London outfit.

Vertonghen’s comments last week show that his teammates value Son highly. The South Korea international is a very underrated player who should be cherished by the Spurs fans.
