Tottenham are hoping to compete on four fronts once again this year, but this time, face a Champions League campaign.
Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen
Jan Vertonghen has claimed that he would happily play five times a week when asked about whether Tottenham Hotspur’s fixture list could prove to be the club’s downfall this season, the Daily Mirror reports.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men are looking to build on the promise they showed last season, but their task of moving themselves back in the Premier League title picture has been made much more difficult by the fact that they also have a Champions League campaign to contend with.

But Vertonghen has insisted that he views the number of fixtures as a positive thing.
“I love it! I love playing – I’d play five games a week. I would find it difficult to just play one game a week. Every footballer wants this,” he said, as reported by the Mirror.

“The Champions League is up there with the Premier League and every Champions League team we play would do well in the Premier League, so we’re constantly playing at the highest level. That keeps you focused.”
It appears that the number of key games has not had a negative impact on Spurs’ chances of glory so far this term.

After eight games in the league, they sit third and remain the only unbeaten team left in the division.
Meanwhile, they currently sit second in their Champions League group and have a last 16 tie in the League Cup on the horizon.
And if they can continue to pick up good results over the coming months, it is likely that the entire team will look at the increased number of crucial fixtures as positively as the Belgian does.
