Jan Vertonghen is a key figure in the current Tottenham Hotspur team.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has suggested to The London Evening Standard that he wants to remain at the club for as long as he can.
Vertonghen has been on the books of Tottenham since the summer of 2012 and has a contract with the North London outfit until June 2019, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
The Belgium international defender recently signed a new deal and committed his future to Spurs, as reported by BBC Sport.

The 29-year-old centre-back has stated that he would try to continue playing for Tottenham as long as he possibly can.
“It’s very hard to finish your career at this level,” The London Evening Standard quotes Vertonghen as saying. “It demands a lot of your body.
“I will try and do what is possible to stay at this level for as long as I can. Not many can play here until 36-37 but I will do my best to stay as long as I can.”

Vertonghen is one of the best defenders in the Premier League and is a key player in the current Tottenham team.
The Belgian will be an important figure for the North London outfit for the next two or three years.
As the 29-year-old suggests, it is hard for a defender to play at the top level into his mid-30s.
Moreover, after two or three years, Tottenham will start thinking of getting a younger replacement for Vertonghen.
