Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier has struggled in his first season in English football.

Vertonghen was praising Spurs’ transfer business, when he name-checked both Aurier and Davinson Sanchez.
“It’s difficult to gel players,” Vertonghen said. “But if there are not too many changes, you pick one or two exceptional players that do fit in. Look at Davinson, or Serge Aurier. Both have had a great season.”

There is no doubting that Sanchez has been an excellent addition, but claiming Aurier has had a great first year at Spurs looks wide of the mark.
Aurier has looked very error prone, and there are already question marks over his future.
The Ivorian, who only arrived from PSG in a £23 million transfer last summer, currently looks like a misguided investment – as he has failed to improve Spurs first-team squad.

Aurier is still behind Kieran Trippier in the pecking order at right-back, and it seems that Pochettino is already eyeing up more additions in that position this summer.
