Tottenham Hotspur were left infuriated as they drew 1-1 at home to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs were dominant for much of the game, and had a half time lead as Lucas Moura scored from close range.
However, they couldn’t find an all-important second goal, and were made to pay for it when Newcastle were given a controversial penalty in injury time.
Andy Carroll’s flick-on struck Eric Dier on the arm, and even though he wasn’t even looking at the ball, the penalty was given.
Callum Wilson stepped up to score, giving Newcastle a rather undeserved point in hugely controversial circumstances.
Jose Mourinho seemed furious as he stormed down the tunnel, and Spurs goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos was sent off for comments towards the referee.
After the incident, former Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen took to Twitter to brand the decision ‘absolutely shocking’, adding that the FA need to ask themselves serious questions.
The likes of Matt Doherty, Japhet Tanganga and Harry Winks didn’t tweet on the matter themselves, but were all seen retweeting angry comments about the decision as the frustration from all around Tottenham was clear.
