Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has admitted that the fans were right to jeer the team at the end of the final whistle against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Following the goalless draw at White Hart Lane, the Spurs supporters showed their discontent with the team by booing the players.
Spurs were expected to win the Premier League encounter and bounce back from the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in style, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side gave a poor performance.
“The fans are not wrong to boo us,” The Independent quotes Vertonghen as saying. “They want to win and I want to win. I understand their frustration.
“I think we should be winning these games as well. And we try to. We just have to find a way to beat these teams.”
Tottenham cannot be expected to win all the match, but against Palace they should have picked up all three points.
After the match, Pochettino admitted that the players lacked “creativity”, while it was clear to everyone who watched the game that Spurs struggled defensively.
It is clear that the Tottenham players need to step up their game, and the fans cannot be blamed for feeling frustrated at the moment.
Spurs are a good side, one who can challenge for a top-four place in the Premier League, but they are failing to gel as a team.
