The former star turned pundit believes one man has been quietly instrumental for Spurs this season.

Tottenham's Christian Eriksen in action

Former Denmark international Jan Molby has told Tottenham Hotspur’s official website that his compatriot Christian Eriksen deserves credit for the success of teammates Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Spurs have kicked on in the last two years and have established themselves as genuine title contenders, although they will have to settle for attempting to ensure they finish as runners-up to runaway leaders Chelsea this term.

Key in the North Londoners’ success has been the exploits of Kane and Alli. Kane has scored goals for Spurs since the beginning of the 2014-15 season, whilst Alli has 27 in 85 games for the club.

The attacking pair have generally been cited as Tottenham’s key duo, but Molby believes the man pulling the strings behind them deserves more credit for their successes.

Molby told the club’s website: “I’ve always been a big fan of Christian. I’ve always been a fan of intelligent players and that’s his strength.

“So much of his work goes unnoticed because it’s about creating space, and that’s creating space for himself and for team-mates. I often say that Christian is behind Dele Alli and Harry Kane’s success in the space he creates for them in his movement and his passing.

“That’s as big a statement you can make about any player, not only having the ability to play well yourself but the ability to make other people play well and other people decisive, which is what he does.”

Eriksen has certainly been an integral player since his arrival at White Hart Lane from Ajax in 2013.

A regular source of assists and a semi-regular goalscorer in each of his near-four full seasons in North London, if Spurs can secure second place in the Premier League and a higher Champions League seeding for next season, the Danish playmaker will deserve a great deal of the credit.
