Sunderland midfielder Jan Kirchhoff has told the club’s official website that the least they owe the club’s fans is their biggest effort.
The Black Cats have endured a difficult start to the campaign under new manager David Moyes. They have failed to pick up a win in any of their first five Premier League games so far, earning just a single point in that time.
Last time around Tottenham Hotspur beat them as a goal from Harry Kane sealed a 1-0 win for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
It was quality not application that was lacking in that game for Sunderland and Kirchhoff says effort is the least they should be giving the club’s fans.
“It’s crazy how the fans follow us all over the country but it’s also very nice, so the least they deserve is our biggest effort,” he told the club’s official website.
“We have to build the connection with them – like we did at the end of last season – at our home stadium and create an atmosphere which makes us hard to beat.”
Sunderland’s attention now turns to their upcoming clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Eagles had not started the season well themselves but have picked up seven points in their last three games and sit eighth in the table at present.
That means Alan Pardew’s team travel to the Stadium of Light full of confidence and Sunderland will have a fight on their hands to secure their first three points of the campaign.
