Jan Kirchhoff has struggled to stay off the treatment table at Sunderland this season, and his future at the Stadium of Light is in doubt.
Jan Kirchhoff has admitted to the Chronicle that he has found this season at Sunderland very frustrating.
Sunderland have struggled to make progress as a club this campaign, and are currently stuck at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Kirchhoff has missed much of the campaign through injury and he has had to watch on, as his Sunderland teammates have struggled to pick up results.
And the talented German midfielder admits that he has not enjoyed this campaign at the Stadium of Light at all.
“It has been very frustrating,” he admitted. “It is not nice to be out and unable to help the team in any way.
“This whole season has been frustrating, not only for me personally but for us as a team.
“We will try our best to stick together and fight our way back out of this situation.
“That’s what I am doing now as well – trying to help the team get some points to stay in the league this season.”
Kirchhoff’s comments hardly serve as encouragement that he will pen a new contract at Sunderland.
The former Bayern Munich man is set to become a free agent in the summer, and there a serious doubts over whether he will pen fresh terms.
And Kirchhoff’s failure to enjoy this season at Sunderland, could hint that his impending exit is now likely.
Kirchhoff could come back into Sunderland’s team for their next match, which comes against Burnley in two weekends’ time.
