Leicester City striker Leonardo Ulloa is wanted by Aston Villa – but Championship rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers have far more financial clout.
With Wolverhampton Wanderers on the search for a proven Championship goalscorer to fire them to promotion this season, who better than a player who averaged a goal every other game in the second tier?
After spending a year sitting miserably on the sidelines at Leicester City, it appears that Leonardo Ulloa could finally escape the King Power Stadium in January.
Aston Villa, who will be forced into the loan market by Financial Fair Play restrictions, are keen to bring the Argentine striker to the Midlands to cover the absence of Jonathan Kodjia for the next few months, according to the Birmingham Mail.
But surely Wolves would be missing a trick if they did not join their Midland rivals in targeting the former Brighton talisman. Brilliant in the air and a powerful presence in attack, Ulloa scored for fun in the Championship between 2012 and 2014 and looks like a picture-perfect alternative to Leo Bonatini in attack.
And while Villa are relying on hope that Leicester will let Ulloa depart on loan, it almost goes without saying that the wealthy Wolves could blow them out of the water with their Chinese owners desperate to seal a place in the Premier League.
Only a year ago, Leicester turned down an £8million bid from Sunderland for Ulloa, as reported by the Telegraph. And while such a fee would be out of Villa’s reach, it would barely make a dent in Wolves’ bank balance.
And the gap between Wolves and the chasing pack would surely become a chasm if Ulloa pulled on the old gold in January.
