Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers were heavily linked with the 24-year-old in the summer.

Jamie Walker to Rangers was perhaps the longest transfer saga of the summer in Scotland.

The Hearts winger was linked with a move to Rangers from June to late August and in the end it never materialised.

Gers manager Pedro Caixinha saw a flurry of bids rejected – the largest of which was £600,000 – and the Tynecastle club held firm over their £1 million valuation, according to The Scottish Sun.

But if Caixinha returns in January then Walker – out of contract in the summer – should snub the Rangers boss and wait for an English club to make a move.

The 24-year-old managed 12 Premiership goals in 28 starts from a wide role last season and such an impressive output is bound to have caught the attention of perhaps a few Championship or League One clubs South of the border.

The bottom line is that Rangers risked upsetting the Hearts star during the summer by not paying the money and being done with it once and for all, and Walker should consider rejecting the Ibrox club if they come knocking once again.

Going forward, it would be the wake-up call that Caixinha needs and he might think again before he scuppers a deal over a paltry £400,000.

He is young enough and talented enough to get a move to England and that should be the aim.
