Everton have been heavily linked with Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy ahead of the summer transfer window.

Sam Allardyce, Manager of Everton looks on prior to the Premier League match between Everton and Southampton at Goodison Park on May 5, 2018 in Liverpool, England.

Sam Allardyce’s comments at his latest press conference, which was broadcast on Everton’s official Youtube channel, surely suggest that Jamie Vardy would fit the criteria for what he is looking for in a striker.

Everton have been linked with the Leicester City forward in the Daily Mirror, with the Toffees said to have made Vardy their top summer target.

And Allardyce’s latest comments may add further credence to the rumours that Vardy could be a target for Everton this summer.

He said: “We still need another goalscorer that gets 15 or more goals in the Premier League next year, because the goal tally has to be at a certain level to achieve sixth. We are way below that level at this moment in time.

“You need at least two players to be in the 15 mark, and then you need the rest, your midfield and your wide players to be in your seven, eights, 10’s.”

Vardy is one of the few players potentially available to Everton who have a proven track record of hitting the 15 goal mark in the Premier League.

Vardy has netted 18 goals for Leicester in the league this term, he notched 13 times in the 2016/17 campaign and he smashed in 24 goals as Leicester won the title two years ago.

If Everton are to sign Vardy they may have to pay big, as Leicester will not want to lose the striker.

The Toffees are also likely to have to offer Vardy big money if they are to snap him up, as the England international forward is on a £100,000-a-week contract at Leicester.
