Helder Costa is set to earn his first league start for Leeds United on Saturday when Marcelo Bielsa’s side travel to the Valley to take on Charlton Athletic.

Jamie Shackleton has raved about the ‘brilliant’ Leeds winger Helder Costa, who is set to earn his first league start for the club when they take on Charlton at the weekend.

As posted on Leeds United’s official Twitter account, Marcelo Bielsa confirmed that Pablo Hernandez is injured and summer signing Costa will be his replacement out on the flanks.

Despite coming off the bench for every Championship game this term, Costa has shown what he is about when he was handed starts in the EFL Cup last month – he provided two assists and scored one goal [transfermarkt].

Now, his Leeds teammate, Shackleton is hoping he can ‘add something a bit different’ to the side, as Leeds look to maintain their place at the top of the table.

“Helder gives everything in training,” Shackleton told LUFC. “All the boys, we train like we play and Helder is exactly the same. He’s one of those that I talk about, he’s on the bench and if you slot him in things don’t look disjointed.

“He’s going to keep up the way we are playing. Hopefully, add a bit more, add something a bit different from what he has got. He’s brilliant one v one, and hopefully, he can add that to our game on Saturday.”

Costa is well aware of what it takes to earn promotion to the Premier League – he helped his parent club Wolves win the Championship title two seasons ago.

Marcelo Bielsa will be hoping that his experience and ability to change a game at any moment can give his team that added bite they are looking for in the final third.

Whilst Leeds have started the season well, it is pretty clear that their inability to kill teams off when they are playing well might prove to be problematic once again as the season progresses.
