Gabby Agbonlahor has quite bizarrely questioned Kieran Trippier’s decision to travel south with his new Newcastle side, while injured, for Saturday’s clash against Brentford – and Jamie Reuben has responded.

Trippier, 31, is expected to be on the sidelines for the majority of the second half of the season – just five appearances after joining the Toon. Having scored the winner against Aston Villa, he then broke a bone in his foot.

Despite being on his crutches, England star Trippier traveled with his Newcastle teammates to Brentford on Saturday – even though he was unable to play. Eddie Howe has spoken of how he will still have an impact.

Newcastle won 2-0 – with goals from Joe Willock and Joelinton. Trippier has been lauded for traveling to the game to help his teammates – but Agbonlahor has questioned the decision, saying he should have his feet up.

Quoted by the Chronicle, he said: “You’ve got an injury, you’re on crutches, you should be at home with your feet up to rest the injury not struggling around on such a long trip to Brentford.” Reuben responded, hilariously.

Reuben responds: Trippier is still just as important to Newcastle

What Agbonlahor has not realised is Trippier’s impact on the Newcastle squad not only on the pitch, but behind the scenes too. He is absolutely crucial to the club’s dressing room, and pivotal to the turnaround in form.

Howe will be watching Trippier basically acting as one of his coaches over the next couple of months – with the Newcastle star expected to be fit again in early May. Until then, he will be important to team morale.
