Jamie Redknapp has urged Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli to be more ‘nasty’ after he featured for England during their recent UEFA Nations League encounters.

Attack-minded Alli started England’s penalty shootout win against Switzerland on Sunday afternoon as Gareth Southgate’s side secured the third spot in the UEFA Nations League – he came off the bench for the defeat to the Dutch during the previous game.

Alli’s form this season has been a little indifferent and some feel he hasn’t pushed on from the success during his early days at White Hart Lane.

Speaking to Sky Sports Football (09/06/2019 at 1:45 pm), Redknapp had a clear message for Alli and what he needs to do to get back to his best.

“I am a big fan of Dele Alli’s,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “A couple of years ago he got 18 goals, last season nine goals and this season five.

“He’s definitely not trained on. I think he has become nice. I want to see Dele Alli with a bit of a nasty streak to him. Wanting to get on the ball. This season, he is flicking it a lot, he is trying to show us how good he is.

“When Dele is at his best, I think of that League 2 player almost. Comes in with that raw attitude and aggression. He has to get back to that because that’s what makes Dele the player that he is.”

One of the things that has seemingly gone from Alli’s game is his goalscoring and it is something he will want to get back to next season.

If he can replicate the goalscoring form from the player that initially joined from League One side MK Dons then he will be a dangerous customer for whoever he comes up against.

Next season, Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be hoping to take the next step and trying to add a trophy to their cabinet after losing the Champions League final.
