Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (Thursday, 12:01) that it is a “no-brainer” for Everton to sign Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi before Thursday’s 11pm deadline.

Sky Sports have agreed a loan deal with both West Ham United and Real Betis for 25-year-old Batshuayi, who remains at Valencia. He has struggled with the La Liga side during the first half of the season.

Everton have also been linked with the Belgium international but it seems as though they are trailing the Hammers and Betis in the race to land the powerful striker.

A boost for Everton, though, is that Sky Sports claim Chelsea would rather sell Batshuayi to Everton – if they are willing to sign him permanently for £30million. Redknapp urged Everton to complete a move.

“I think they need to bring in a striker. When I think of the great Everton sides they’ve always had a great centre forward, someone that could lead the line,” Redknapp said.

“Is Michy Batshuayi the answer? Everyone is trying to unearth this talent that he’s got. He seems to go from one place to another and he’s been sent back from Valencia where he’s been on loan. It didn’t really work out for him there.

“Batshuayi on a loan would be a no brainer. I really think it’s worth getting him in and seeing whether you can get something out of him.”

The striker has managed just three goals in 23 games for Valencia this season, though he showed what he is capable of at Borussia Dortmund last season with nine goals in 14 appearances.

It remains to be seen where Batshuayi will end up, though he remains well down the pecking order at Chelsea behind Olivier Giroud and Gonzalo Higuain. Certainly, his future is not at Stamford Bridge.
