Jamie Redknapp has told The Echo that he expects a really big season from Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita.

The former Leipzig star has had a mixed couple of years at Anfield in terms of individual form.

Yes, Keita has won a Champions League and Premier League title, but a lack of form and fitness has limited the 25-year-old to only 32 start across both competitions.

But the Guinea international has really shone for Liverpool in pre-season and scored in a 3-0 win over Stuttgart last month.

And Redknapp believes the ‘bang-in-form’ midfielder could finally show the Reds fans what he’s truly capable of this coming season.

He said: “One player who I think could have a big season is Naby Keita. He struggled when he first arrived, but during the end of last season and from what I’ve seen in pre-season, he looks bang in form.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him show the player we thought we were signing from Leipzig originally.”

According to The Echo, the Anfield outfit paid £52 million to bring Keita in from Germany and injury or not, it’s time he starts repaying that fee.

The good news for him is that Gini Wijnaldum is linked away and a departure for the Dutchman just might result in him being given a lot more game time next term.

The bad news is that Liverpool are heavily linked with a move for Thiago Alcantara, so Keita might be back to square one even if Wijanldum does leave.

Jurgen Klopp’s side kick off their season with a visit of Leeds United tomorrow.
