Pundit Jamie Redknapp has told The Scottish Herald that he thinks Celtic have ‘struck gold’ with manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Bhoys were in the market for a new manager over the summer as Ronny Deila left the club after two years in charge – and they went for Rodgers.

The Northern Irishman, formerly of Watford, Reading and Swansea City, is best known for his time managing Liverpool, where he came within in a whisker of winning the Premier League title in 2014.

Having left Liverpool in October of last year, Rodgers is now looking to rebuild his career with Celtic, the club he grew up supporting.

So far, Rodgers has made a huge impact; Celtic have won six and drawn one of their seven league games so far, even beating Old Firm rivals Rangers 5-1 in a memorable afternoon at Celtic Park.

In European action, Rodgers guided Celtic to the Champions League group stage for the first time since 2013, and whilst the 7-0 defeat to Barcelona was a disappointment, drawing 3-3 with Manchester City was a great result.

Rodgers is making a real impression with Celtic, and has now received praise from pundit and former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp.

Redknapp has told The Scottish Herald that he isn’t surprised by Rodgers’ success as he’s a big fan of his work, and believes Celtic have ‘struck gold’ by appointing him.

“It is no surprise how well he is doing at Celtic,” said Redknapp. “I am a big fan. I got to know him before he got the job up here. I remember playing golf with him and, I don’t know how it worked out and I’m not taking credit, but Dermot Desmond was there.

“I don’t know whether they had a meeting but Dermot was obviously impressed with him. I like his style of football and he was a little bit unfortunate at Liverpool. It didn’t work out but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a great manager. Celtic have struck gold with him,” he added.
