Tottenham Hotspur’s Juan Foyth endured a mixed Premier League debut.

Pundit Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he wants to see Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth improve in terms of his body position and how he defends one-v-one against strikers.

Spurs went to Molineux on Saturday night to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers, their third game in just six days, which prompted some rotation from boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Defender Foyth came into the side having impressed in the Carabao Cup win over West Ham United on Wednesday night, and it all seemed to be going well for the Argentinian in his first ever Premier League display.

Spurs were 3-0 up thanks to goals from Erik Lamela, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane, whilst defender Foyth was impressing at the back with his composure on the ball and reading of the game.

However, Foyth gave away a penalty for a trip on Raul Jimenez, which Ruben Neves converted, and then Foyth also brought down full back Jonny to give Wolves another penalty, which Jimenez scored.

Foyth’s two fouls turned the game on its head but Spurs managed to hold on, and much was made of the Argentinian’s performance.

An £8million signing from Estudiantes in 2017, Foyth has been forced to wait in the background at Spurs, and his up-and-down Premier League debut won’t be quite how he envisaged his big break.

Now, pundit and former Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Foyth needs to improve in two areas – body position and how to defend one on one against a striker – but thinks he will come back better from his mistakes.

“After conceding a second penalty at Wolves, Juan Foyth will have wanted the ground to swallow him up,” said Redknapp. “It may have been a nightmare Spurs debut but he must view it as a learning curve.”

“He now knows he needs to work on his body position and how he defends one-v-ones. Iron out those mistakes and he will come back stronger,” he added.
