Pundit talks up Glenn Murray’s weekend display.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has praised Crystal Palace striker Glenn Murray for his performance against West Ham.

Murray netted twice in the 3-1 win, before being sent off late on, but even that couldn’t ruin his day.

The 31-year-old played a key role in Palace’s promotion two years ago, but injury ruined his debut season in the Premier League. Earlier this campaign he was loaned to Reading where he scored eight in 18 games in the Championship, and now he is getting his shot under Alan Pardew.

Redknapp told The Mail: “At Upton Park he looked every inch a top-flight striker. His movement was good, he held the ball up well and though he was lucky with his first goal, his second was top class.

“Yes, he tainted his day with a silly red card, but he looked like he was loving every minute. He deserves it.”

Murray now has three goals this season for Palace, a figure which would look better had his last gasp header against Arsenal bounced in off the post rather than out. Of the club’s strikers, he narrowly has the best chance conversion rate in he league this season.

The trouble for Murray now is that his good form will now be disrupted by suspension, giving other strikers a chance to stake their claims. He has certainly done enough however, previously, and against the Hammers, to demand another shot upon his return.
