Jack Wilshere is out of contract at Arsenal this summer, and Jamie Redknapp has suggested that he may need a move to West Ham United.

Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that Jack Wilshere should look to try and get a move to West Ham during the summer and revive his career in the same way that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has since leaving Arsenal.

Wilshere has endured a difficult career, with the 20 Premier League appearances he has made this term proving to be the most that he has made in a single season for the Gunners since 2013/14. And there appears to be question marks lingering over his future.

The Daily Star reported in March that he is out of contract at the Emirates in the summer, and while Arsenal have offered an extension, they want the 26-year-old to take a pay cut while the likes of West Ham and Everton are prepared to offer him more than the £120,000-a-week that he currently earns.

And with the curtain having now come down on the season, Redknapp insisted that Wilshere seriously needs to consider leaving for the London Stadium given how loved he would be playing for the Hammers.

“Jack is loved by the Arsenal fans. Like Kane at Tottenham, he is one of their own. I have been critical of him in the past as he can offer so much more. He does not have as many goals and assists as a player of his talent should. A new manager will demand more — as he will from all the players in the Arsenal comfort zone,” he told the Daily Mail.

“But Wilshere may also see how Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has developed since leaving the Emirates. Clubs may be nervous about Jack’s injury record but he’s as fit as I’ve seen him in years. West Ham could be a good move. Their fans love a maverick who will conjure moments of magic. Jack could help West Ham light up the London Stadium.”

There is no question that if Wilshere’s injury record was more reliable, clubs would be falling over themselves to offer him eye-watering terms – it would be a huge surprise if Arsenal allowed his contract situation to reach this point if he did have a better track record.

But if he does remain available on a free transfer this summer, the Irons should definitely take the gamble. Wilshere has often been the one Arsenal player to emerge from their games this term with any credit and looks to be proving that he can maintain his fitness over a decent period.

It is undoubtedly a gamble for West Ham, but it could prove to be a real masterstroke if they do manage to sign him this summer.
