Jamie Redknapp has suggested that David Luiz’s body language is something of a contagion that makes Arsenal players struggle on a collective basis.
The Brazilian centre-back made his comeback in last night’s 2-1 defeat by Everton after spending a few games on the sidelines following a head injury at home to Wolves.
But it was another difficult performance from Arsenal in what has been a nightmare of a first-full season for Mikel Arteta, whose charges sit 15th in the Premier League.
Once again, the Emirates Stadium outfit struggled to create many goalscoring chances and Redknapp believes that a whiff of some apathetic non-verbals from Luiz – their most experienced player – had an adverse affect on Arteta’s team as a whole.
He said on Sky Sports, broadcast on 19/12: “David Luiz’s body language was poor and that can transmit to the rest of the players.
“There are so many problems at the moment at Arsenal, it’s hard to put your finger on one of them.”
Luiz, an £8 million signing from Chelsea in 2019, is actually Arsenal’s most creative player these days.
And considering he’s a centre-back, it’s such a damning indictment for Arteta’s midfielders.
Edu, the club’s technical director, has revealed that every effort will be made to sign a creative outlet in January but, even if they do buy or loan one, you wouldn’t back him to be a hit.
