Tottenham’s Michel Vorm is struggling for game time at White Hart Lane so the last thing he wanted to do was allow Daniel Sturridge an opener inside ten minutes.

Jamie Redknapp slammed Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Michel Vorm on Sky Sports for his failure to keep out Daniel Sturridge’s first goal in Liverpool’s 2-1 EFL Cup win on Tuesday.
The Dutchman, making only his fifth appearance of the campaign, failed to react quickly enough as Sturridge anticipated a loose ball in the visitors’ box to slot home his first of a match-winning brace at Anfield.
Vincent Janssen halved the deficit with a second-half penalty but Liverpool held on to reach the quarter-finals and Redknapp was in no doubt as to who was at fault for the end of Tottenham’s eight-game unbeaten run.

“I think [Vorm] bottles it,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports’ EFL Cup coverage, broadcast at 7pm on Tuesday. “I think he’s got to do better.”
The 32-year-old former Swansea shot-stopper redeemed himself to a degree with a series of impressive second half stops, denying Divock Origi and a Sturridge hat-trick to ensure Spurs’ defeat did not descend into embarrassment on Merseyside.
Indeed Jurgen Klopp praised Vorm after the game, admitting that he almost single-handedly kept Tottenham in the contest as Liverpool looked to pull further clear.

However, his inability to respond to the danger with Sturridge bearing down on goal, though perhaps the consequence of a lack of competitive match action, means first-choice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris (below) is likely to remain relatively unchallenged for the time being.
