Jamie Redknapp has revealed on the official England podcast that Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane told him how much he loved having England fans at Wembley yesterday after full-time.

Kane didn’t have his best game in an England shirt yesterday, despite their 1-0 win.

The Tottenham striker was actually taken off around the 80th minute mark, as Gareth Southgate looked to use more pace to threaten Croatia on the counter attack.

But Kane throughly enjoyed the occasion, and Redknapp said: “When it comes together and it’s right, like it did in 96 and at previous tournaments, there’s nothing better than when the England fans get behind their team.

“They felt it today. I had a chat with Harry Kane briefly after and he said, it’s so good to have the fans in there, albeit only 22,000 – you could feel it.

“Because of the acoustics of the stadium they really enjoyed the whole atmosphere, and I think the players thrived off it.”

Kane remains key

Kane’s best chance for England came when Mason Mount delivered a great cross, but the Tottenham man fluffed his lines from close range.

Thankfully for the Three Lions that miss didn’t prove costly, as England got off for a great start.

Kane’s starting place certainly won’t be under any threat for England, despite his rather low key start to the tournament.

The Three Lions are next in action against Scotland on Friday, and the Tottenham man will surely feature prominently in the game.

If England can beat the Scots later this week, then they will effectively seal their progress to the knockout stages, even before their final group game against the Czech Republic.
