Gareth Bale looks set to leave Real Madrid this summer.

Pundit Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he would love to see Tottenham Hotspur re-sign Gareth Bale this summer – despite hearing Chinese clubs are keen.

Bale, 29, was a hero at Tottenham, smashing 55 goals in 203 games, 49 of which came in his final three seasons at the club.

After destroying Premier League defences with his pace, Bale moved on to Real Madrid in 2013, with the La Liga giants paying a then-world record fee to sign him.

It’s fair to say that Bale’s time in the Spanish capital has been up and down. His record of 102 goals in 231 games is impressive, he’s won the Champions League four times as well as winning La Liga once, and his bicycle kick against Liverpool in last season’s Champions League final will live long in the memory.

However, Bale has often been accused of failing to integrate himself in Spain having failed to learn the language, and eight only eight league goals this season, his time with Madrid may be up.

Finding a buyer may not be easy though given his considerable wages, as well as his injury record and his age, which tend not to mix well.

Many Spurs fans are desperate to see Bale return to Tottenham as a marquee signing for their new stadium, but that seems wholly unlikely under Daniel Levy’s regime.

Still, ex-Spurs man and current pundit Jamie Redknapp has admitted that he thinks Tottenham should re-sign Bale this summer, but has heard clubs in China want to sign the Welsh hero – which surely isn’t as attractive as Spurs despite the money on offer.

“His Real Madrid days look numbered. I’ve heard that clubs in China are keen to sign Bale, but I would love to see him return to Tottenham,” said Redknapp. “Imagine him lighting up their new stadium!” he added.
