Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk is believed to be near the top of Liverpool’s transfer wish list.
Van Dijk announced yesterday that he has asked to leave Southampton and handed in a transfer request.
However, Redknapp says that he has heard that Van Dijk is not the sort of player who will refuse to play to get his own way.

“What I will say if that there is enough people that know him. I know the people at Celtic who worked with him, and they say he is a fantastic character,” Redknapp said.
“He’s a winner. No [he’s not a rotten apple]. If he does stay at Southampton, he will get on with it and he will be exceptional for them. That’s the sort of character I hear that he is. But I think he will force his way out of there.”
Klopp recently stated that Liverpool were happy with the centre-back options, but Van Dijk has been one of his top targets all summer.
The former Celtic man is regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, after a series of excellent performances for Southampton last term.
The Saints are understood to be determined to keep hold of Van Dijk, but the player seems to have his heart set on a move.
