Jamie Redknapp shares opinion on West Ham United’s Sebastian Haller and Aston Villa’s Wesley

Aston Villa striker Wesley and West Ham United’s Sebastian Haller both scored at the weekend.

Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he is sick of seeing West Ham United’s Sebastian Haller and Aston Villa’s Wesley written off already.

Haller and Wesley both failed to score in the first two weeks of the season, and immediately question marks were raised over the West Ham and Villa strikers.

But Haller scored twice for the Hammers this weekend in their 3-1 win over Watford, and Wesley scored during Villa’s 2-0 victory against Everton.

And Redknapp said: “I’m sick of seeing strikers written off after one or two outings. We need to give them time. Back in the day, we would wait 10 games to judge a player properly. That’s why I’m glad two strikers in particular showed what they are about this weekend to silence the critics.

“One was Aston Villa’s Wesley, a £22million buy from Bruges, the other West Ham’s Sebastien Haller. a £45m purchase from Eintracht Frankfurt. Neither had played in the Premier League but both led the line and scored.

“They did their jobs and led their teams to their first wins of the season. Now let’s get off their backs and see how they progress.”

The criticism of Haller has, perhaps, not been as harsh as that faced by Wesley.

Haller didn’t even play in West Ham’s second game of the season due to injury, so his brace now takes him to two goals in two games.

Wesley, on the other hand, did face real question marks over his ability after Villa’s opening two matches.

The Brazilian struggled to get involved early on in his Villa career, but his brilliant performance against Everton on Friday night silenced a lot of doubters.
