Liverpool have snapped up Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool’s new defender Virgil van Dijk
Pundit Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane should be worth around £150million after Virgil Van Dijk’s move to Liverpool.
The transfer window only opened on Monday, but Liverpool already have their first January signing in through the door, having landed Van Dijk from Southampton.
Their summer pursuit of the Dutch international ultimately fell short, but having struck an agreement with the Saints last week, Van Dijk officially became a Liverpool player on Monday.

The Telegraph note that the fee involved for Van Dijk was an eye-watering, club-record deal worth £75million, with the Reds now hoping that the 26-year-old can solidify their defence.
Van Dijk’s deal is another example of the exorbitant transfer fees which are almost becoming the norm among the world’s elite football clubs, and after a world-record fee was paid for a defender, some are wondering just how other prices will be affected.
One player who would surely command a huge fee is Tottenham striker Harry Kane, who hit a stunning 39 Premier League goals for Spurs in 2017, has scored two hat-tricks in a row and has 24 goals in 24 games this term.
Now, pundit Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he thinks that Kane must be worth at least £150million if Van Dijk cost £75million, which would still put the Spurs star shy of Neymar as the world’s most expensive player.

Redknapp added that he thinks Van Dijk will be ‘colossal’ for Liverpool, and can help them guarantee a top four place – but thinks Kane is the fourth-best player in the world and best centre forward around.
“If Liverpool are signing Virgil van Dijk for £75million, then what does that make Harry Kane worth?” said Redknapp. “With Kane, you are buying the best No 9 in the world and any club would have to pay at least £150m for him. Beyond Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar, there is no better player in world football right now. As a striker, Kane is every bit as good — if not better — than Robert Lewandowski as his outstanding record of 56 goals in 2017 proves.”
“Transfer fees are relative. Liverpool have been crying out for a central defender and for me, this move cements Champions League football for them next season. Leicester made £73m from the Champions League last season so £75m seems a fair price to confirm a top-four spot. I wrote at the start of the season that Van Dijk is the heir to Vincent Kompany as the Premier League’s best centre back. His head was not in the right place until his move but Van Dijk will be colossal for Liverpool,” he added.
