Vincent Janssen has an opportunity to step up for Tottenham Hotspur after first choice striker Harry Kane suffered an injury.

While the pair can play together, in recent games Janssen has been a substitute behind Kane, but could be set for a run in the side.

Kane was substituted off against Sunderland late on with an ankle injury, and had to be taken to the dressing room on a stretcher.

Jamie Redknapp has told The Mail that Janssen must seize his upcoming opportunity, suggesting Tottenham fans will grow impatient if he does not.

He said: “Two 20-goal seasons have put pressure on Kane to deliver for Tottenham, and Vincent Janssen was brought in to take some of the burden off the 23-year-old’s shoulders.

“It’s one thing dominating in the Dutch league, but Spurs fans are an unforgiving bunch so he needs to start scoring soon.”

Janssen impressed in pre-season for Spurs, but has found it a little more tough going in the Premier League to date, although he does just have one start to his name.

The Dutchman has four further substitute appearances to his name in the league, for a combined 206 minutes of football.

He will likely get the start in midweek in the EFL Cup match at home to League One side Gillingham, which could be the perfect opportunity for him to open his account.

While he could run wild and net a hat-trick, it is important not to over react if he does not find the scoresheet, for his true test could come in the upcoming matches in the league against Middlesbrough and Manchester City, and CSKA Moscow in the Champions League, if Kane remains out.
