Son Heung-min scored twice for Tottenham Hotspur against Middlesbrough in the Premier League at the weekend.
Jamie Redknapp has suggested in The Daily Mail that Son Heung-min is a better option than Vincent Janssen when it comes to replacing Harry Kane.
According to The Guardian, England international striker Kane could be out for eight weeks with an ankle injury.
Janssen seems to be the natural replacement for the 23-year-old, having been signed from AZ in the summer transfer window.
The Netherlands international striker has arrived at White Hart Lane with a strong reputation, and the 22-year-old will be expected by the fans to score important goals in the absence of Kane.
Former Tottenham midfielder Redknapp, though, believes that Son is a better option than Janssen as a replacement for Kane.
The former England international made the comments following the South Korea international’s heroics at the weekend.
The 24-year-old winger scored twice on Saturday afternoon, as Spurs got the better of Middlesbrough 2-1 away from home at the Riverside Stadium in the Premier League.
“There was always a big worry about who was going to fill the void if Harry Kane got injured and Spurs bought Vincent Janssen to ease the burden on the striker,” Redknapp wrote in The Daily Mail.
“Son could have come back sulking this summer but he has shown the perfect attitude, scoring four goals including a brilliant brace on Saturday at Middlesbrough.
“He’s looking a better option than Janssen and, as the table shows, Son is finally starting to show he can be the player to lift some of the pressure from Kane’s shoulders.”
The table that Redknapp has referred to is the one on The Daily Mail which shows the list of players who have scored the most Premier League goals for Tottenham since the 2015-16 season.
Kane has scored 27 goals, while Dele Alli has found the net 11 times. Son is third in the list with eight, and Christian Eriksen has scored six goals.
While Son is in good form at the moment, it must be noted that he is not exactly a ‘striker’ – Janssen is.
It would be best if Tottenham do not put too much pressure on Son to score goals.
