Jamie Redknapp has said on Sky Sports’ podcast that it’s been ‘a long time’ since he has seen a left-back like Tottenham Hotspur star Sergio Reguilon.
Obviously Gareth Bale was Spurs’ biggest signing of the summer transfer window by a million miles in terms of profile.
But he certainly hasn’t been the most effective addition at Tottenham so far this season.
That honour must either go to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg or Reguilon, who joined the North Londoners for £27 million from Real Madrid.
The 23-year-old has been a revelation under Jose Mourinho, starting six Premier League games and he could well be back in time for today’s visit of Arsenal after spending a very short spell on the sidelines.
Redknapp was speaking about Mourinho’s best XI on the podcast and claimed that it’s been years since a left-back has impressed him like Reguilon has.
He said: “Reguilon is as good a left-back as I’ve seen for a long time. It’s not a midfield that’s that skilful but it’s a midfield that he likes.”
If fit, Reguilon could have a tricky game today.
Arsenal have a £72 million winger in the form of Nicolas Pepe who doesn’t play like a £72 million winger, and he’s suspended in any case, but Willian is a lot more adept in this division than his France-born team-mate and the Brazilian could, if he’s allowed, cause the Spaniard some issues.
