Fernando Llorente scored at the right end in the Carabao Cup semi-final for Tottenham last night.
The Spaniard took flak after netting an own goal days earlier against Fulham as he stepped in for the injured Harry Kane.
Llorente’s second half header tied the game and took it to penalties before Chelsea emerged victorious.
Pundit Jamie Redknapp told Sky Sports that he was pleased for Llorente, as he found it uncomfortable watching him before his goal.
He said: “I was so pleased for this guy. I was thinking at half-time, ‘was he going to be taken off?’.
“He was struggling for confidence. It was hard to watch him.
“He deserved that goal. He’s had a tough time from his own fans, from everybody.”
Llorente’s improvement was short lived as he later fluffed a chance when put clear by Christian Eriksen.
He was later substituted and played no part in the penalty shootout.
The goal will lift Llorente’s confidence, and he will likely be needed again away to Crystal Palace this weekend in the FA Cup.
