Jamie Redknapp has defended Arsenal’s Matteo Guendouzi and suggested that he has been treated unfairly in the Daily Mail.
Guendouzi has taken on board a great deal of criticism for his actions during Arsenal’s defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.
The French midfielder has been dropped from Arsenal’s squad for their last two matches.
But Redknapp really doesn’t feel that the youngster has done much wrong.
“Guendouzi isn’t a saint but shouldn’t be slaughtered,” he wrote.
“Matteo Guendouzi did not make the Arsenal squad again yesterday, but I refuse to hammer the 21-year-old for his trash talking against Brighton.
“It’s all said in the heat of the moment. A player says something he later regrets.
“So to slaughter Guendouzi for sledging, to borrow the cricket term, is unfair.
“He is not the first to do it, he won’t be the last.”

Whether Arteta will gradually re-introduce Guendouzi into his Arsenal side remains to be seen.
There have actually been suggestions that the Gunners midfielder could leave in the near future, as Arteta has reportedly been left less than impressed with his conduct.
The Daily Mail suggest that Arsenal would sell the 21-year-old, if they were to receive a sizeable offer for him.
