Pundit Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports coverage of Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur that he felt Joe Rodon dealt well with Tammy Abraham.

Spurs made the short trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening, knowing even a point would take them back above Liverpool at the top of the table.

The game was far from a classic, as Tottenham were quite reserved in the second half and kept Chelsea quiet, earning a 0-0 draw in West London.

Jose Mourinho will be delighted with the clean sheet, especially given that he handed a first start to Rodon, who arrived from Swansea City in October.

The Welsh international has been a substitute in the Premier League, but his ineligibility in the Europa League meant this was his first start as he filled in for the injury Toby Alderweireld.

That was a major show of faith from Mourinho. He could have gone with the more experienced Davinson Sanchez, but trusted Rodon to impressed Stamford Bridge.

There were a couple of nervy moments; he gave the ball away for Timo Werner’s disallowed goal and almost gifted Olivier Giroud a winner, but he was composed and read the game well for the majority of the clash.

During the game, Jamie Redknapp suggested on 61 minutes that Rodon dealt really well with the in-form Tammy Abraham, feeling that their similar physicality meant the Tottenham ace won their personal battle.

“Rodon has dealt pretty well with Tammy Abraham,” said Redknapp. “He’s done really well. It’s a proposition he would probably enjoy playing against; somebody with the same sort of physicality as him,” he added.
