Pundit Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Son Heung-min and Vincent Janssen must step up in the expected absence of striker Harry Kane.

Tottenham coasted to a 6-0 FA Cup win over Millwall on Sunday afternoon, and whilst Spurs celebrated a win in the final ever FA Cup game at White Hart Lane, it wasn’t all good news for manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Striker Harry Kane had a shot on goal in the first half, and as defender Jake Cooper came in to make a block, Kane’s ankle caught under Cooper’s leg and seemed to roll awkwardly, with Kane immediately being substituted for Christian Eriksen.

Kane suffered a similar injury against Sunderland in September, and that kept him out for around seven weeks, with Spurs enduring some difficult during his absence.

Having hit 24 goals in all competitions this season and 83 goals in since the start of the 2014/15 season, Kane has been Tottenham’s star man under Pochettino, and with 12 goals in ten games before facing Millwall, the England international was in top form.

However, Kane now faces another spell on the sidelines, and fans are understandably concerned about the club’s top four hopes given the other options at Pochettino’s disposal.

Vincent Janssen was signed from AZ Alkmaar with a view to supporting Kane having hit 31 goals in 49 games last season, but his goal against Millwall on Sunday was just his fifth of the season, and his first from open play.

Son Heung-min did score a hat-trick against Millwall but is more of a winger than a natural striker, meaning Pochettino will have a tough decision regarding who to play in Kane’s absence.

Now, former Tottenham midfielder and current pundit Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that other top six clubs were given a major boost with Kane’s injury, and having admitted that he is concerned given how Spurs stuttered without Kane earlier this term, he called on both Janssen and Son to step up and perform with Kane out.

“Tottenham’s top-six rivals were given a huge boost on Sunday when Harry Kane suffered another bad ankle injury,” said Redknapp. “Spurs stuttered when Kane was out earlier in the season, scoring six times in five games and dropping points against West Brom, Bournemouth and Leicester.”

“Having failed to deliver the goods in Kane’s absence, Son Heung-min and Vincent Janssen have to step up now. They both scored timely goals against Millwall, with Son getting a hat-trick, and must use this as a platform to keep Spurs firing on all cylinders,” he added.
