Pundit Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he felt Felipe Anderson was ‘electric’ in West Ham United’s 3-1 defeat at Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.

The Hammers were looking for a first point of the season as they made the trip to the Emirates Stadium, having opened with defeats to Liverpool and Bournemouth.

It all started so well for them in North London, as forward Marko Arnautovic exchanged passes with Felipe Anderson before driving the ball into the net for the opening goal.

However, it didn’t last as Hector Bellerin’s cross was smashed home by Nacho Monreal for the Arsenal equaliser, before Issa Diop’s unfortunate own goal put the Gunners in front.

West Ham couldn’t get back into the game and squandered opportunities on the break, before Hector Bellerin teed up Danny Welbeck to make it 3-1 in the dying embers of the game.

Manuel Pellegrini therefore remains without a win or even a point as West Ham boss, but Jamie Redknapp – son of former Hammers manager Harry – has given him something to be excited about.

Brazilian playmaker Anderson was finally played as a number 10 rather than being used out wide, and the club’s record signing, who arrived from Lazio over the summer, showed just how dangerous he can be in a superb display.

After the game, pundit Redknapp told the Daily Mail that he felt Anderson was ‘electric’, and West Ham must be more clinical in order to make the most of his creative abilities.

“West Ham may have lost at Arsenal but Anderson was electric,” said Redknapp. “Playing through the middle he ran 7.3 miles, more than any team-mate, made Marko Arnautovic’s goal and set up another two chances. With such a creative spark in their side, West Ham have to be more clinical,” he added.
