Tottenham Hotspur clinched a deal to sign Fernando Llorente on deadline day, beating Chelsea to his signature.

The former Swansea striker is a player who has been on Tottenham’s radar for many years, dating back to Harry Redknapp’s time in charge.

Son Jamie Redknapp confirmed this speaking to The Mail last year, explaining that Tottenham simply did not have the money available to buy him

At the time of his comments Redknapp also expressed his fear that Llorente had lost his spark, after an initial early struggle at Swansea.

He said: “I remember my dad trying to sign him for Tottenham from Athletic Bilbao five or six years ago and they could not afford him.

“Llorente went to Juventus and although he scored 16 goals in his first season in Serie A, he seems to have lost some of that appetite and desire.”

Llorente went on to find form for Swansea, scoring 15 times to help them avoid relegation.

This form convinced Spurs to finally spend money on the striker, and hope it will finally pay off.

Llorente helped Juventus reach the Champions League final during his time at the club, and has represented Spain at international level.
