Ex-Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic continues to thrive at Fulham.
Pundit Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports (22/09, 14:35) that he thinks Newcastle United will be regretting selling striker Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham.
Newcastle drew 0-0 away at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, and that came just hours after former Magpies striker Mitrovic starred for Fulham yet again.
Mitrovic rescued a point for Fulham against Watford after Andre Gray had given the visitors the lead at Craven Cottage, with Mitrovic earning just rewards for a fine performance.
The Serbian was a menace, particularly in the second half, testing Ben Foster on a couple of occasions before scoring from close range with great movement, and almost won it when he planted a header onto the crossbar late on.
It’s now five goals in six games for Mitrovic this season, as he continues to star under Slavisa Jokanovic at Fulham, having flourished under his compatriot’s management during a loan spell last season.
The 24-year-old is developing rapidly with the Cottagers, and whilst he’s scoring goals for Fulham, Newcastle collectively have found the net just four times in their six games this term, with Mitrovic alone one ahead of them.
Rafael Benitez has used the likes of Joselu, Salomon Rondon and Yoshinori Muto in attack this season, with none of them particularly prolific in recent years, leaving many to wonder why he completely gave up on Mitrovic midway through last season.
Now, pundit Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports after Fulham’s draw with Watford that he thinks Mitrovic is becoming the complete striker as he has all the attributes, adding that Benitez and everybody at Newcastle will be watching the striker whilst thinking they sold him too soon.
“He can do everything.” said Redknapp. “He can go into wide areas, he can head it, he’s such a powerful player, and he’s got all the attributes that you need. He’s 24 years of age, you forget that! I was so impressed with him, and what he’s done is channel that aggression.”
“The problem he had at Newcastle was, everybody could see the talent, but the amount of times he was a liability to his team. They almost ran out of patience, but the manager at Newcastle, everybody at Newcastle will be looking at this thinking ‘oh my God, perhaps we should have persevered with this guy’. What a talent, he’s got so much ability, and when you’re looking for a centre forward to buy now, he ticks all the boxes; you can play direct to him, you can play into his feet, he’s cute with the ball, he ticks every box,” he added.
