Idrissa Gueye played well for Everton against Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.

Eden Hazard of Chelsea beats Idrissa Gueye of Everton during the Premier League match between Chelsea FC and Everton FC at Stamford Bridge on November 11, 2018 in London, United Kingdom.

Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp has praised Everton defensive midfielder Idrissa Gueye in The Daily Mail.

Redknapp has claimed that the 29-year-old is the best defensive midfielder in the Premier League outside the top six.

The former England international believes that the Senegal international is the unsung hero in the current Everton, and has compared the former Aston Villa ace to Peter Reid.

Redknapp made the comments following the Toffees’ goalless draw with Chelsea away from home at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon in which Gueye played well.

“Idrissa Gana Gueye is the best defensive midfielder outside the top six,” Redknapp wrote in The Daily Mail.

“He doesn’t just sit in front of the back four. He’s got great energy, wins tackles and looks to pass forward when he can.

“He is the unsung hero in Marco Silva’s team and Everton fans will be hoping they’ve got another Peter Reid on their hands.”
