Jamie Redknapp has praised Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn in The Daily Mail for his performance against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

McGinn featured for Villa in their opening Premier League game of the season against Tottenham away from home at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London on Saturday evening.

The 24-year-old Scotland international scored for the Villans in the ninth minute and gave a good account of himself against Spurs.

According to WhoScored, the former St. Mirren and Hibernian star took one shot, had a pass accuracy of 85.2%, won one header, and made four tackles, one interception and two clearances.

Former Tottenham midfielder Redknapp has praised McGinn for his performance, and he believes that the 24-year-old looked like a £55 million player against Spurs.

Redknapp wrote about McGinn in The Daily Mail: “A special mention has to go to Aston Villa’s John McGinn, or ‘McGinniesta’ as some call him.

“No disrespect to Tottenham’s record signing Tanguy Ndombele, who scored a wonderful goal, but McGinn looked like the £55million midfielder on the pitch at times.

“The guy cost £2.75m when he joined from Hibernian in 2018 but he ran the midfield and opened the scoring. It was outstanding.”
