And Redknapp thinks that Grealish is ready to make a big impact.
“I look at Grealish and get the feeling that he could be the man to lead Aston Villa to safety this season,” he said.
“The midfielder was once seen as a bit of a rascal but he looks to have grown up. He’s become Villa’s talisman and the captain’s armband suits him. He’s a great dribbler and some of his strikes are wonder-goals.
“Grealish has not appeared in the Premier League since 2016 but he now looks ready to shine at this level.”
Grealish has been joined by a lot of new teammates at Villa this season, as they were the most active side in the market in the Premier League.
Villa brought in 14 new additions, with Smith making big chances.
The claret and blues get their season underway tomorrow, when they take on Tottenham Hotspur.
