Pundit Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United both desperately need to splash the cash this summer.

Tottenham finished their season with a topsy-turvy 5-4 home win over Leicester City on Sunday afternoon, meaning they end the campaign in third place in the Premier League table.

Meanwhile, West Ham rounded off their campaign with a 3-1 home win over Everton, as Manuel Lanzini scored twice in a fine home victory, leaving David Moyes’ side in 13th place.

Whilst the two teams have very differing targets and ambitions right now, it’s fair to say that the London rivals are heading towards a very important summer.

Tottenham are moving into their new stadium this summer, and whilst they will again be in the Champions League next season, they face losing experienced performers such as Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Mousa Dembele.

Spurs fans are hoping to see big arrivals this summer, whilst across London, West Ham may look to replace David Moyes this summer, and big signings are needed to prevent another battle at the bottom.

Now, pundit Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he thinks both teams need to spend massively, urging West Ham to give it a really good go next season whilst telling Spurs to invest in order to keep up with Manchester City.

“This season will have been a huge wake-up call for David Sullivan and David Gold,” said Redknapp. “West Ham’s joint chairmen can either admit this isn’t for them and walk, or give it a really good go next season. If they stay, they must back their manager with the funds to succeed. The fans will not accept another poor season.”

“It’s also a pivotal summer for Tottenham. Toby Alderweireld, Mousa Dembele and Danny Rose — all key men in the last three years — could be heading for the exit. As West Ham and Arsenal have shown, moving to a new stadium is not always easy. Spurs are not on the same playing field financially as Manchester City but they will have to spend to keep competing with the best,” he added.
