The former Liverpool midfielder has been speaking about Everton’s managerial situation.

Jamie Redknapp has described Everton fans as ‘working class people’ and claimed they don’t want to see ‘pretty football’ at Goodison Park.

Redknapp, who once played for Everton’s city rivals Liverpool, was discussing the Blues’ managerial situation on Sky Sports News earlier today [Tuesday].

Albeit ambitious, Everton are said to have made Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone their number one target to succeed Ronald Koeman, who was sacked last month.

But when asked who the Toffees should go for, Redknapp replied: “If they can get [the Burnley manager, Sean] Dyche, I’d get Sean Dyche.”

The 44-year-old continued: “Certain clubs, it’s in their DNA. When you used to play at Everton you knew what you were facing. The crowd don’t want to see pretty football, they’ve gone through Martinez, they’ve now had Koeman, that’s not what they want. They’re working class people, they want to see aggressive football and they want to see a bit of nastiness in their team.”

But his comments, understandably, have not been well received by several Everton supporters, as evidenced by the following tweets – two of which we’ve had to censor due to their explicit nature.

@mstreffo: “Redknapp is a big *******. Who the **** is he to suggest what Everton supporters want. The man hasn’t clue about our club

@ChrisBo18831408: “Who gives a **** what Jamie redknapp thinks?? Worst pundit going”

Former England manager Sam Allardyce remains the bookmakers’ favourite for the Everton post, despite denying media reports which claimed he had already held talks with Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri, in an interview with Talksport earlier today.

Dyche and Marco Silva, the Watford boss, are also said to feature on Everton’s shortlist.

What do you make of Redknapp’s comments about Everton fans?
