Pundit Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Liverpool need a player like Tottenham Hotspur ace Son Heung-min in their squad next season.
Liverpool came from a goal down to beat Stoke City 2-1 on Saturday afternoon, with half time substitutes Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino both notching goals for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
With Coutinho ill and Firmino fatigued, Klopp was forced to play Ben Woodburn and Trent Alexander-Arnold alongside Divock Origi in attack – another sign of Liverpool’s lack of attacking depth.
Sadio Mane’s season-ending injury has left Liverpool short of options, and manager Klopp must bring in at least one more winger this summer to boost his squad.
Liverpool’s first team can contend with the Premier League’s very best, but Klopp lacks depth – and fans will be keen to see some smart additions being made at the end of the season, with Jamie Redknapp making a suggestion.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Redknapp has admitted that he thinks Liverpool need a player just like Tottenham’s Son Heung-min; somebody who can chip in with goals when key players are missing, as he has during Harry Kane’s absence.
The South Korean international bagged two goals in Tottenham’s 4-0 home win over Watford on Saturday, meaning he has now scored seven goals in his last five games since Kane suffered an ankle injury last month.

Spurs are unlikely to sell Son to a top four rival, but a player like the 24-year-old Tottenham ace would be ideal for Liverpool – and Redknapp added that he didn’t expect the Reds to fight back against Stoke, finally showing some character.
“We all know what Liverpool can do against their top-six rivals. It is when they face sides like Stoke that Jurgen Klopp’s side have faltered,” said Redknapp. “I did not expect Liverpool to fight back and win on Saturday. They have been too nice at times this season. They are scintillating when all is well but when the going gets tough they have lacked character.”
“That win will go some way to help Liverpool finish in the top four but it showed how reliant they are on Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino. When the Brazilian duo, and Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana, are fit Liverpool are unstoppable. What they need next season is a squad player like Son Heung-min who will nick a goal when the first-choice forwards are injured,” he added.
