Everton re-signed Wayne Rooney on Sunday afternoon.
Pundit Jamie Rednapp has told Sky Sports that he is surprised that Wayne Rooney has re-signed for Everton, but is glad to see him head back to Goodison Park.
The Toffees had already made big splashes in the transfer market by signing Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez, but they really made the headlines on Sunday.

After plenty of speculation, Everton confirmed the signing of Wayne Rooney on Sunday afternoon, re-signing him from Manchester United.
Rooney, 31, came up through the ranks with boyhood club Everton, scoring 17 goals in 77 games before heading to Manchester United in the summer of 2004.
Rooney went on to become United’s all-time record goalscorer, smashing 253 goals in 559 games for the Red Devils – but he struggled for first-team football under Jose Mourinho last season.
With just 15 Premier League starts to his name, it became clear that the United captain would have to move on for regular playing time, and he has now chosen to re-join Everton on a two-year deal.
Now, pundit Jamie Redknapp has offered his view on Rooney’s emotional return to Merseyside, telling Sky Sports that he is pleasantly surprised to see him re-join Everton.
Redknapp feels that Ronald Koeman is the right man to get the best out of Rooney again, and thinks that he will have a point to prove against those who have criticised him so much over the last year.

“I’m a little bit surprised Rooney’s gone back to Everton but I would say I am pleasantly surprised,” said Redknapp. “I thought he might move to the MLS or go to China, however, it’s good seeing him stay in the Premier League. He is a Premier League legend. He scored plenty of goals for Everton before going to United, where he was also a huge success but he’s going home now. He’ll want to prove a point to everybody that’s writing him off and I think he’s still got a lot to offer.”
“In Ronald Koeman I think he’s got the right manager for him and he’s going to be loved at Goodison Park. That’s the important thing because with Jose Mourinho you could see he was surplus to requirements. Your career doesn’t last forever so the fact he’s going back to Everton and he wants to play at the top level is great. It’s a brand new challenge and an exciting one. The fact he is staying in the Premier League shows his ambition and he still believes he can play at the top level. He wants to show everyone he can still do a job for Everton,” he added.
