Pundit Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen is the most underrated player in the Premier League right now.

After stumbling at Wembley with a 0-0 draw against Swansea City, Tottenham were back on the road in the Premier League, making the short trip to West Ham United on Saturday afternoon after winning their previous two away games against Newcastle United and Everton.

Spurs romped into a 3-0 lead at the London Stadium, as Harry Kane scored twice in the first half before Christian Eriksen notched a third after the break.

Javier Hernandez and Cheikhou Kouyate scored either side of Serge Aurier’s red card to give West Ham a fighting chance of claiming a point, but Spurs managed to hold on with 10 men to seal a 3-2 victory.

Tottenham’s 100% record away from home continues, and whilst Kane will grab the headlines with his two-goal display, playmaker Eriksen deserves a huge amount of praise for his performance too.

Eriksen, 25, became the Premier League’s all-time leading Danish goalscorer with his strike against West Ham, his second goal of the season.

It’s his playmaking ability that has impressed pundit Jamie Redknapp though, as he has told the Daily Mail that Eriksen is the most underrated player in the Premier League, citing his superb ball to Dele Alli for Kane’s first goal as an example of his excellent service.

Redknapp added that it’s easy to see why Eriksen doesn’t get as much as attention as some of his Tottenham team-mates, but wants to see an award established for the player with the most assists in the Premier League, rewarding players like Eriksen and Kevin De Bruyne.

“With the super strikers on fire, it is easy to overlook the creative geniuses who fuel these front men,” said Redknapp. “Christian Eriksen is the most under-rated player in the Premier League. He makes Harry Kane and Dele Alli tick with phenomenal service — just look at his sublime ball to free Alli in the build-up to Tottenham’s first goal against West Ham. It’s easy to see why Eriksen does not get the same attention as Spurs’ other stars. He does not court the limelight — he almost needs a tattoo or a silly haircut to make him stand out!”

“Eriksen, David Silva for Manchester City and Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho all dazzled this weekend. They were instrumental in setting up stunning goals for their sides and I wish there were more English players who possessed the same technical ability. I’d love to see a trophy awarded to the player who gets the most assists. Passes like Alli’s to set up Kane at West Ham, or Kevin De Bruyne’s to Sergio Aguero against Watford were sensational. Watching a player thread a pass through the eye of a needle is one of the most beautiful parts of the game and that should be recognised,” he added.
