Everton recorded a deserved victory against Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Jamie Redknapp was in awe of Phil Jagielka and Idrissia Gueye following their performances for Everton during their 1-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Centre-back Jagielka, who came in as a late replacement for Michael Keane, scored the only goal of the game as Marco Silva’s side should have won by a bigger margin in front of their own crowd.

Defensive-minded midfielder Gueye was his old typical self as he helped his team to their third consecutive clean sheet and win in the Premier League.

Speaking to Sky Sports Premier League after the match (07/04/2019 at 4:10 pm), Redknapp claimed that Gueye is playing ‘as good as anybody’ and Jagielka was a ‘joy’ to watch.

“He deserves a special mention Jagielka because I questioned before the game how difficult it was going to be for him,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “He was magnificent today! Not easy playing against Lacazette, Aubameyang and Ramsey comes on. He showed every bit of experience in the game – It was a joy to watch his performance today. Top class!

On Gueye: “Everyone talks about Fernandinho being the best. But this guy, at the moment, is as good as anybody. His all round game is sensational. His energy and the way he senses danger all the time for his team.”

The result lifts Everton into ninth place in the Premier League table as they are now well in the race to finish in seventh place at the end of the season.

Brendan Rodgers Leicester City, who beat already-relegated Huddersfield Town on Saturday, occupy that European spot followed by Wolves, who were beaten in the FA Cup semi-final by Watford over the weekend.

On Saturday, the Toffees will make the trip to London to take on already-relegated Fulham as Silva will be hoping his side can register a fourth win on the bounce.
